The TAFE Annual Reports tabled in Parliament this week provide a damning report card for Daniel Andrews’ repeated claims that he has “saved TAFE”.
The GOTAFE Annual Report shows a reduction of student numbers in 2018 by 4,648 or 32.8% compared to the previous year. This means that fewer young people in Northern Victoria are receiving funding to complete training, gain skills and perform the jobs we need
Statewide, TAFE Annual Reports show a 5% overall decline in Government funding for student enrolments in training (contestable funding provided to TAFEs) in 2018, equating to a $19 million reduction.
Locally, GOTAFE suffered one of the biggest funding reductions of Victoria’s 12 TAFEs with contestable training funding reduced by 20.9% or $4.3 million in 2018. (GOTAFE suffered a direct funding reduction of $1.4 million over the past 12 months, which was exacerbated by the Government requiring the institution to repay a further $2.9 million bringing the funding reduction to $4.3 million).
Daniel Andrews and his Minister consistently refuse to answer questions about the drop of student numbers and funding at Victorian TAFEs.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“Daniel Andrews has repeatedly claimed that he “saved TAFE” yet GOTAFE has experienced a drop of 4648 students in the last 12 months.
“In some parts of Victoria Free TAFE enrolments do not even come close to the reduction in student enrolments that have occurred in recent years.
“GOTAFE is vital for our community and Daniel Andrews must get his head out of the sand and stop pretending there’s no issues.”
