The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has exposed the failure of Early Childhood Minister Ingrid Stitt to take action to save the Panton Hill Kindergarten.
In a question to Ms Stitt in question time in State Parliament, Ms Lovell sought a commitment from the Minister that she will help Nillumbik Shire Council to secure a manager for the kindergarten so it can remain operational.
Ms Lovell said that Nillumbik Shire had put out an expression of interest for a cluster manager for next year but received no interest and the kindergarten now faced closure unless a management structure could be put in place immediately.
In response to Ms Lovell’s question, Ms Stitt refused to provide any real commitment to assist the council to secure a manager and stop the closure.
Despite Panton Hill Kindergarten operating at a deficit in recent times, Ms Stitt also failed to commit any additional funding for the kindergarten, which would allow the service to became financially stable.
The Panton Hill Kindergarten is the direct feeder for students to Panton Hill Primary School and Ms Lovell said Ms Stitt’s failure to help Nillumbik Shire to save the kindergarten was shameful.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“As Early Childhood Minister Ms Stitt has stood up in State Parliament and openly failed to help save Panton Hill Kindergarten from closure.
“Nillumbik Shire have continuously reached out the State Government for assistance to ensure Panton Hill Kindergarten remains operational and Ms Stitt’s failure to commit this help is a disgrace.”
