In parliament today I questioned the Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development regarding Woolworths reconsidering the agreement it has with SPC that Woolworths’ ‘Select’ home brand fruit products would contain Australian grown and processed fruit sourced from SPC.
The Minister’s answer confirmed that – prior to the media breaking the story – she was in the dark about Woolworths potentially walking away from the SPC agreement.
At the time of my question the Minister had not met with either SPC or Woolworths, and she gave no commitment to meet with Woolworths to save Goulburn Valley jobs.
The future of SPC is vital for the Goulburn Valley, and Woolworths must stand by the agreement they made with SPC and the commitment they made to the Victorian public.
The Minister and the Andrews Government must take immediate action to ensure Woolworths remains committed to the agreement it entered into with SPC, and that SPC’s future remains secure.
