The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell is encouraging sporting clubs throughout the Yan Yean electorate to apply for a share of around $500,000 in new VicHealth Active Club Grants.
VicHealth’s Active Club Grants, which open today, provide funding of up to $3,000 or up to $10,000 to community sport clubs to create more opportunities for women and girls and ‘social’ or modified sport options for less active Victorians.
Ms Lovell said the funding could support new teams as well as cover the cost of uniforms, coaching staff and equipment so that more Yan Yean District residents become more active and improve their health.
“The aim is to have more of our community involved with sport, so it’s exciting to see sporting clubs and associations provide more opportunities for people who previously did not get involved with sport,” Ms Lovell said.
“I encourage all our hardworking clubs in the Yan Yean region to take this opportunity to apply for a grant and deliver new opportunities to get more people active.”
VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio said Active Club Grants have supported hundreds of clubs across Victoria to get more people in their community moving in new ways.
“Our latest round of Active Club Grants will support more local sport clubs in the Yan Yean electorate to provide further opportunities for the community to improve their health and wellbeing by becoming more active,” Dr Demaio said.
Clubs applying for Active Club Grants funding can indicate if they would like to be considered for an additional $2,000 grant to promote This Girl Can – Victoria to encourage women in their local community to get active.
It’s easy to apply! Clubs are encouraged to apply for the funding grants through the VicHealth website before 4pm on 24 February 2020. For further information or to apply online, visit https://www.vichealth.vic.gov.au/funding/active-club-grants.
