New VicHealth funding responds to health needs in Benambra electorate.

Five local organisations in the Benambra electorate will share in $73,320.00 in VicHealth funding to support residents hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic to improve their health and wellbeing.

Acres And Acres Co-op, Upper Murray Innovation Foundation, Tallangatta Girl Guides, Murray United Football Club and Beechworth Wanderers Cricket Club are among the organisations to receive a VicHealth Reimagining Health Grant to help locals build better social connections with each other and the community, provide greater opportunities for physical activity and increase access to healthy, affordable food.

The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell said the funding will support the community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This much-needed funding from VicHealth will ensure local organisations can continue supporting our community to build back better from the impact of coronavirus,” Ms Lovell said.

“Grass-roots organisations are the heart and soul of the Benambra electorate and their efforts are key to helping us recover from this pandemic.”

VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio said community organisations play a vital role, now more than ever, in helping people connect and take care of their wellbeing.

“As we embrace the new COVID-normal, we’re committed to supporting Victorians to be more physically active, access healthy, affordable food and to socially connect,” Dr Demaio said.

“These grants will help more Victorians enjoy better health and wellbeing through the direct support of their local clubs, organisations and community groups.”

Grant recipients in the Benambra electorate include:

Acres And Acres Co-op Ltd – $50,000 to address food insecurity in the Upper Murray region;

Upper Murray Innovation Foundation Inc – $7,500 to reduce the loneliness and isolation of people in the Thowgla Valley;

Tallangatta Girl Guides – $8,300 to remove any barriers to participation and purchase equipment;

Murray United Football Club – $3,000 to upskill participants for no cost;

Beechworth Wanderers Cricket Club – $4,520 to assist teenagers impacted by the bushfires and COVID-19 isolation.
