The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called for increased bus services between Kilmore East Railway Station and the Kilmore township to ensure better access to rail services for local residents.
In a constituency question in State Parliament to the Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne, Ms Lovell sought additional funding by the Andrews Labor Government to allow bus services to the railway station to operate on weekends and public holidays.
Increased bus services to the Kilmore East station is a key priority in Mitchell Shire Council Budget Submission document prepared for the State Government in the lead up to the May State Budget.
In her contribution, Ms Lovell said with no bus services currently available on weekends and public holidays, some Kilmore residents are forced to walk the 3.6km to the Kilmore East station in order to use their nearest train service.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The lack of transport to the Kilmore East station on weekends and public holidays is preventing the people of Kilmore, including the most vulnerable members of the community, from accessing their rail service.
“This is a totally unacceptable situation and the Minister needs to act immediately by and providing funding to establish weekend and public holiday bus services between the township and Kilmore East Railway Station.”
