Lovell throws support behind Toolamba Primary School land purchase.
The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to purchase land that will allow for the future expansion of Toolamba Primary School. The call comes after a large block of land on the eastern side of the school was put on the market, in what is seen by the school community as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity.
In a constituency question to Minister for Education James Merlino, Ms Lovell said up until now Toolamba Primary School, also home to Toolamba Kindergarten and Preschool, has been landlocked, with no available land to allow for future expansion.
In her contribution, Ms Lovell said the purchase of the newly available land presented an obvious solution to the problem, particularly with the school being located in a acknowledged residential growth corridor.
Ms Lovell said Toolamba Primary School had submitted a business case and other documents supporting the purchase of the land, on the market for $230,000, and called on Mr Merlino to commit the funding to allow the purchase to proceed.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The Andrews Labor Government has a responsibility to ensure that Toolamba Primary School has the necessary capacity to address the expected increase in enrolments and this is an opportunity that cannot be missed.
“The purchase of this land will ‘future-proof’ the school by allowing future growth and I urge the Minister to provide the $230,000 required to secure the land.”
