The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called out the Andrews Labor Government for failing to invest in the important Mildura South Sporting Precinct project.
In a constituency question to the Minister for Sport Martin Pakula in State Parliament, Ms Lovell sought a State Government commitment of $10 million that will see the completion of Stage 2 of the project.
Upon full completion the Mildura South Sporting Precinct project will deliver world-class sporting facilities for the entire Sunraysia district including a six-court indoor stadium, an AFL standard sporting oval, a new café and changerooms, dedicated squash courts and a secondary sporting oval.
The majority of funding for Stage 1 of the new precinct has come from the ratepayers through Mildura Council as well as the Federal Government, with the Andrews Labor Government so far contributing only $3 million of the total $36.5 million required for the project.
The State Government’s failure to invest in the sports precinct project has seen the Mildura Council forced to contribute an additional $1.48 million to the project.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The continued ignoring of the Mildura South Sporting Precinct project by the Andrews Labor Government has seen the ratepayers of Mildura Council forced to put their hands into their pockets again to help fund the project.
“Over six months ago the Minister called the case for State funding for the project compelling but he needs to put his money where his mouth is and provide the $10 million required to complete the project.”
