The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Region Wendy Lovell has slammed the Andrews Government’s timeline to complete the redevelopment of Goulburn Valley Health.
In a response to an adjournment matter raised by Ms Lovell in State Parliament in September, Health Minister Jenny Mikakos has confirmed that the redevelopment of GV Health will not be completed for a minimum of 20 years.
The shocking admission by Ms Mikakos means the Goulburn Valley community may not enjoy a health facility to the standard of those in other major regional centres until at least 2035.
Services not included in Stage 1 of the redevelopment such as mental health, outpatients and oncology are already under stress and cannot wait 20 years for improved facilities.
Ms Lovell has been relentless with her pressure on the Government to release the hospital’s revised Masterplan to give the community certainty surrounding the delivery of a world-class health facility.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“Jenny Mikakos has let the cat out of the bag by confirming that under a Labor Government the redevelopment of Goulburn Valley Health will take a minimum of 20 years and will not be completed until 2035 at the earliest.
“The Minister’s startling admission that the redevelopment will take a minimum of 20 years to complete proves that Daniel Andrews cares little for the health needs of the Goulburn Valley.”
“We can now add the completion of our hospital upgrade to the growing list of projects that are either not funded or underfunded in the Shepparton electorate.”
