The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Region Wendy Lovell has used the latest sitting of State Parliament to highlight the infrastructure needs of many Country Fire Authority stations in her electorate.
During the adjournment debate this week, Ms Lovell sought a commitment from Minister for Emergency Services Lisa Neville that the upcoming State Budget will specifically include funding to refurbish or replace fire stations at Currawa, Yarrawonga, Strathbogie and Golden Square Fire Brigades.
Since being elected to Parliament in 2002, Ms Lovell has been a tireless advocate for the dedicated volunteers of the CFA who work so hard to protect communities throughout her electorate of Northern Victoria Region. This advocacy included the need for regular government funding so that our firefighters can work in contemporary and fit-for-purpose facilities.
Ms Lovell said the four fire stations she had highlighted are no longer suitable to house the respective brigades, with a lack of changerooms, no space for equipment and an inability to store trucks and tankers a common theme.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“Currawa, Yarrawonga, Strathbogie and Golden Square are four of many brigades throughout Northern Victoria that require substantial refurbishment or replacement fire stations.
“The Minister needs to ensure there is sufficient funding in the upcoming State Budget to deliver the proper facilities to these brigades that our dedicated firefighters deserve.”
