The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to provide funding to construct a new fire station for the Strathbogie CFA.
In a constituency question to the Minister for Emergency Services Lisa Neville, Ms Lovell highlighted the operational deficiencies of the station and sought a commitment for funding to build a new station at the local recreation reserve.
The current Strathbogie fire station was built in the late 1970’s and is no longer fit for use by the brigade’s dedicated volunteers. The station is too small to house the brigade’s three vehicles, it has no meeting area and lacks toilet amenities for volunteers.
With land already secured for a new facility at the Strathbogie Recreation Reserve, Ms Lovell has called on Ms Neville for a commitment to allocate funding to construct a new 3 bay station with meeting room and appropriate amenities for the dedicated members of the Strathbogie CFA Brigade.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The current Strathbogie Fire Station is so small there is no room to for the brigade’s ultralight tanker which has to be parked at a neighbouring property.
“The station doesn’t even have toilets and volunteers are forced to use amenities at the town hall across the road.
“With land already secured, the Minister needs to support the Strathbogie CFA members and build them a modern fire station that meets operational requirements and best serves the volunteers and the local Strathbogie community.”
