The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has highlighted the need to upgrade Alpine Health’s Bright District Hospital, calling on the Andrews Labor Government to provide funding to update the hospital’s Masterplan.
Speaking during the adjournment debate in State Parliament, Ms Lovell sought a funding commitment from Health Minister Martin Foley of $400,000 for the service to review and update the plan which was completed in 2015.
Ms Lovell visited the facility last week and saw for herself that the hospital’s current infrastructure was compromising Alpine Health’s capacity to deliver the health services the Bright community needs.
Infrastructure needs at Bright District Hospital include new high care aged care beds, new air-conditioning in the hospital’s theatre area, an overhaul of the hospitals ventilation system and facilities to accommodate visiting medical specialists.
Ms Lovell said the $400,000 funding commitment would allow Alpine Health to identify and plan a redevelopment that will properly meet the healthcare needs of the community into the future.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The current infrastructure at the Bright District Hospital needs to be upgraded to help Alpine Health deliver the healthcare its patient catchment requires.
“I urge the Minister to provide this funding so that Alpine Health can update the Masterplan and plan a redevelopment of Bright Hospital that will deliver the health services the community needs.”
