The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called for a funding commitment from the Andrews Labor Government that will ensure the continuation of the successful Loddon Campaspe Healthy Heart of Victoria program for the next four years.
The program was developed in 2018 by the Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership and is supported by six local councils to improve the health outcomes of people throughout the Loddon and Campaspe region.
In a constituency question to the Minister for Health Martin Foley in State Parliament this week, Ms Lovell said the Healthy Heart initiative focuses on getting residents more active and healthier. To keep the program operating into the future, Ms Lovell sought a funding commitment in the upcoming 2020-21 State Budget of $7 million over the next four years.
Ms Lovell said the program is a tried and tested model in tackling obesity and chronic diseases and could also support health and wellbeing recovery in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The Loddon Campaspe Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative has been successful in developing projects that are improving the health and wellbeing of the people of central Victoria.
“A funding commitment of $7 million will allow the program to continue for the next four years and I urge the Minister to ensure this money is included in the upcoming budget.”
