Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has welcomed the Minister for Roads and Road Safety’s confirmation that the Shepparton Bypass will be considered for funding through Port of Melbourne lease proceeds.
The Minister made this statement in response to a letter from Ms Lovell.
“On September 19, when the Government announced that it had leased the port for $9.7 billion, I immediately wrote to the Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Roads urging the Andrews Government to consider allocating port lease funds to the much-needed Shepparton bypass project,” Ms Lovell said.
“In his response to my letter, the Minister confirmed that proposals for the bypass will be considered for funding from the Port of Melbourne lease proceeds.
“Having confirmed that the Shepparton Bypass will be considered for funding, the Minister must now act to ensure that the bypass is considered a priority for at least funding of the first stage.”
Ms Lovell used Parliament this week to press the Minister to commit the funding as a matter of urgency, and stressed the necessity of the bypass to the Goulburn Valley and wider community.
