The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has once again advocated for the home of the Mansfield SES unit to remain at its present location on the sale yard site, owned by Mansfield Shire Council.
Only two weeks ago Ms Lovell raised the matter in State Parliament, calling on the Andrews Labor Government to purchase the site and ensure the home of the unit and also a possible emergency services hub in the future.
The Minister for Emergency Services Lisa Neville responded to Ms Lovell’s question via the local media, with a headline in the Mansfield Courier; “State Govt says no” and Ms Neville quoted as saying it “did not warrant the purchase of a site of this magnitude”.
Raising the matter again this week in a constituency question to the Minister, Ms Lovell provided the State Government with another alternative; to purchase part of the site.
It is believed the Mansfield Shire Council are willing to sub-divide the sale yard site into numerous lots and Ms Lovell’s latest suggestion for the State Government to purchase a portion of the site will secure the future of the Mansfield SES and provide the option to establish an emergency services hub in the future.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“It is my understanding that Council are willing to sell part of the land so there is no reason for the Government not to secure enough of the land to properly house Mansfield’s emergency services.
“There is no other location available that will allow the Mansfield SES to respond to emergencies within the committed 8-minute response time and it is time the Minister stopped ignoring this issue and secure the unit’s present location as its permanent home.”
