I am delighted with today’s announcement that Shepparton will be home to Victoria’s ninth BreastScreen Victoria Reading and Assessment Service.
In February I raised the issue of local women having to pay for expensive follow up tests in Shepparton if irregularities were detected in their initial mammogram. I pointed out that it was unfair for Shepparton women to have to pay or be forced to travel to Melbourne to get these additional tests for free.
As a result of my advocacy, these tests will be now be available at the Reading and Assessment Service at no cost which is a wonderful outcome and the Service will be a huge asset in the early detection of this insidious disease.
I would like to thank the brave local woman who shared her local breast screening experience with me and again I welcome the establishment of the Reading and Assessment Service in Shepparton.
