The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has sought funding from the Andrews Labor Government to install traffic lights at a busy Shepparton intersection.
In a constituency question in State Parliament recently to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll, Ms Lovell highlighted the need to upgrade the T intersection of Graham Street and Numurkah Road from its current give way sign.
Ms Lovell first raised the need for traffic lights at the intersection in March last year to the then Roads Minister Jaala Pulford. Whilst the Minister’s response was favourable that an upgrade at the intersection was planned, no work had commenced in the preceding 12 months.
In her latest contribution, Ms Lovell said the increased traffic flows through the intersection will only become greater with the completion of Stage 1 of the Goulburn Valley Health redevelopment.
Ms Lovell sought a commitment from Minster Carroll that funding to install traffic lights at the intersection will be included in the upcoming 2021-22 State Budget.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The Andrews Labor Government announced 12 months ago that an upgrade was planned at the Graham Street-Numurkah Road intersection, yet we are still waiting for work to commence.
“A give way sign for Graham Street motorists is no longer suitable and traffic lights are needed to improve safety at the intersection.”
