The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has used the last parliamentary sitting week for 2021 to again seek a funding commitment from the Andrews Labor Government that will build a new home for Shepparton Foodshare.
After last raising the issue in September, in her latest contribution Ms Lovell highlighted the significant role played by Shepparton Foodshare in co-ordinating food distribution during August’s COVID-19 outbreak in Greater Shepparton and sought a commitment from current Minister James Merlino of $950,000 for the organisation.
Shepparton Foodshare are purchasing land utilising their own funds and the State Government funding will build a new fit-for-purpose facility that will allow for upscale, and expansion should the need arise in the future.
Ms Lovell said with Shepparton Foodshare having to vacate their current premises, it is important the Andrews Labor Government made the funding commitment to ensure the organisation can continue its vital work into the future.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“Funding for a new home for Shepparton Foodshare would be a fitting way for the Andrews Labor Government to say thank you for the organisation’s wonderful work helping thousands of Greater Shepparton families forced to home quarantine during the August COVID outbreak.
“The Minister needs to support Shepparton Foodshare and provide the $950,000 in funding to allow this wonderful organisation to continue its crucial role in helping the most vulnerable members of the community.”
