The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has continued her advocacy for safety upgrades at the Kialla West Primary School crossing by raising the issue in State Parliament this week.
With work in Spring Street dominated by the passing of legislation to extend the State of Emergency, Ms Lovell said the safety concerns at the crossing were so urgent that she needed to raise it again with Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll.
Ms Lovell’s contribution comes after she recently wrote to the Minister seeking planning details and a funding commitment to get the upgrade completed and make the crossing safer for students, families and motorists.
This month will see the second anniversary of a horrific collision at the crossing, where a school family sitting in their vehicle at the crossing was rear ended by a truck travelling at 80km/h. Both the physical and emotional injuries from this horrific collision still remain for this family.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“It has been a big week in State Parliament, but it is important that the Government are acutely aware of the urgent need for upgrades at the Kialla West Primary School crossing.
“The Andrews Labor Government have a duty to the family involved in the collision, as well as the wider community, to make the crossing safer everyone who uses it.”
