The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on Premier Daniel Andrews to immediately realign the border community bubble by reinstating the six Victorian local government areas he removed early this month.
On the 1st September Mr Andrews announced the removal of the LGA’s of Greater Shepparton, Greater Bendigo, Benalla, Buloke, Loddon and Yarriambiack from the border community bubble and Ms Lovell said this had caused significant difficulties for services and businesses in these areas that work in southern NSW.
Ms Lovell said that regional cities such as Shepparton, Bendigo and Benalla are the major service centres in our part of Australia and the removal of these centres from the bubble has meant that many businesses who do provide a service to NSW then need to isolate for 14 days on return to Victoria.
In her contribution Ms Lovell gave a real-life example of a specialist vet from Shepparton who attends animals on a farm in the Berrigan Shire would be prevented from working upon return to Victoria because of the 14-day isolation requirement and called on the Premier to take immediate action to rectify this unworkable situation.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“Removing the Greater Shepparton, Greater Bendigo, Benalla, Buloke, Loddon and Yarriambiack LGA’s from the border community bubble showed that Daniel Andrews has no understanding of how people live and how businesses operate in border communities – we are one community and rely on each other as a way of life.
“Put simply, these LGA’s are part of the border community region and the Premier needs to reinstate them immediately.”
