With the 2021-22 Victorian State Budget to be delivered in May, the Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Region Wendy Lovell has again called on the Andrews Labor Government to allocate funding to upgrade the Whittlesea Police Station.
Built in 1960, the station has been in poor condition for many years and together with the wider Whittlesea community, Ms Lovell has long advocated for the station to be upgraded to meet the policing needs of the region.
The current Whittlesea Police Station is too small to properly house the station’s gazetted staff and lacks the facility for the public to have a confidential conversation with a police member. The station has poor interviewing facilities and there is no proper disability access to the station. The station has no separate male, female, or disabled toilets.
Ms Lovell said the current Member for Yan Yean had promised to upgrade the station prior to the 2018 State Election but nothing had been done and it was imperative the government finally delivered funding in the 2021-22 State Budget to complete the badly needed refurbishment at the station.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The current state of the Whittlesea Police Station is a disgrace and the fact that police members are forced to work in such conditions is unacceptable.
“Danielle Green and Labor have ignored the policing needs of the Whittlesea community for too long and the Acting Minister needs to ensure the upcoming budget includes funding to deliver this essential upgrade.”
