The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has used the return of State Parliament to address safety concerns at a notorious Congupna intersection.
In a constituency question for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll, Ms Lovell addressed the safety of motorists at the intersection of the Goulburn Valley Highway and Katamatite-Shepparton Road and called for a safety audit to be conducted at the intersection.
The intersection is located on a sweeping bend of the GV Highway and is only a few metres north of the intersection with Grahamvale Rd, the alternate route for trucks bypassing Shepparton.
Ms Lovell said that the intersection has been the scene of many serious vehicle collisions over the years and that it had been reported by a constituent that two roll-over collisions in two days had occurred at the intersection in March.
Ms Lovell asked Mr Carroll to direct Regional Roads Victoria to conduct a safety audit of the intersection to identify steps to make it safer for motorists.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The GV Highway and Katamatite-Shepparton Rd intersection is used by a very high volume of traffic each day, including many heavy vehicles transporting produce to Melbourne.
“My constituents who travel through the intersection regularly have raised their concerns with me regarding motorist safety and I call on the Minister to ensure a safety audit is conducted at the intersection by Regional Roads Victoria.”
