The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has called on the Andrews Labor Government to revise current COVID-19 restrictions to allow for the immediate re-opening of Victorian gyms and dance studios in regional Victoria.
Speaking during the adjournment debate in State Parliament this week, Ms Lovell called on Premier Daniel Andrews to take action to ensure the future of these sectors that play such an important role in the physical and emotional health of their customers.
Ms Lovell said the fitness and leisure industry has been hardest hit by every lockdown imposed by the Andrews Labor Government and that gyms and dance studios have suffered more days of closure than most other businesses because they have always been the last industry allowed to re-open.
In her contribution Ms Lovell emphasised that all Victorians are living with the negative impacts of government-imposed lockdowns, including the closure of gyms and dance studios that people rely on to keep physically and emotionally fit.
Ms Lovell said that both gyms and dance studios had proven they can operate safely to combat COVID and called on Mr Andrews to immediately re-open both sectors in regional Victoria.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“All businesses suffer during these government-imposed lockdowns, none more so than gyms and dance studios, who are always the last to re-open once a lockdown ends.
“Just as importantly, both sectors are important in maintaining the physical and mental health of many Victorians and the Premier needs to act now and open regional gyms and dance studios immediately.”
