The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has renewed calls for a review of Greater Shepparton’s town bus service, whilst highlighting the need for bus services to be established at a new Shepparton school.
Ms Lovell raised the need for an urgent review of the town bus service currently operating in Shepparton and Mooroopna in October last year and with no review conducted, raised the issue again in State Parliament this week.
In her contribution Ms Lovell said the current service failed to meet the transport needs of the Greater Shepparton community, with only limited services operating on Saturdays and no services on Sundays or public holidays. There is also currently no town bus service at all to Tatura, the third-largest town in the municipality.
Ms Lovell said the town bus service had remained the same for many years and a comprehensive review was urgently required.
In a separate constituency question to Mr Carroll, Ms Lovell also called for St Anne’s Catholic College in Kialla to be included in the local School Bus Program. Despite being in an identified growth corridor, St Anne’s has no dedicated school bus service, with students forced to catch a town bus from the McGuire exchange to get to school.
Ms Lovell said with an expected enrolment of around 1400 students within four years this was not a sustainable solution and called on the Minister to ensure St Anne’s College gets the bus services it requires.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The current Greater Shepparton town bus service has remained unchanged since 2009 and the Minister must ensure a review is conducted so the local community get the public bus services they need.
“Similarly, St Anne’s College has no dedicated bus service and students rely on a town service to get them to school.
“The school is getting bigger each year and I call on the Minister to ensure St Anne’s is included in the local School Bus Program so that the transport needs of students at are met.”
