The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has renewed calls for the Andrews Labor Government to properly manage the noxious Paterson’s curse weed in the Gunbower State Forest and National Park.
Ms Lovell raised the problem with the Andrews Labor Government in November last year, calling on Environment Minister Lily D’Ambrosio to ensure proper management of the weed was undertaken by DELWP officers.
In her latest contribution in State Parliament this week, Ms Lovell said that feedback she had received indicated Paterson’s curse was even more prevalent throughout the Gunbower State Forest and National Park this year, indicating the action taken 12 months ago had been inadequate.
Ms Lovell reiterated the importance of adequate management of the Paterson’s curse weed in Gunbower and again sought an undertaking from Ms D’Ambrosio that she will ensure effective action is taken this year to properly manage the weed in the Gunbower State Forest and National Park.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“I raised the issue of the prevalence of Paterson’s curse in the Gunbower State Forest and National Park twelve months ago and the Minister promised that appropriate action to manage the weed would be taken.
“Clearly this work has not been done because the weed is back and more widespread than ever before.
“It is the responsibility of the Andrews Labor Government to ensure the management and removal of Paterson’s curse in our state forests and national parks and I urge the Minister to take immediate action to ensure the weed is eradicated from the Gunbower State Forest and National Park.”
