The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has renewed calls for the Andrews Labor Government to provide funding to construct a new fire station for the Strathbogie Fire Brigade.
In a constituency question in State Parliament this week, Ms Lovell sought a commitment from the Acting Minister for Emergency Services Danny Pearson that funding for the new station is included in the upcoming 2021-22 State Budget to be delivered later this month.
Ms Lovell last raised the current state of the Strathbogie Fire Station in July 2020, highlighting the poor conditions that volunteers are forced to work in whilst protecting their local community. The station currently has no toilets, no meeting room, and no room to house the brigade’s ultralight tanker which is parked off site.
Strathbogie Shire Council are pushing for a new 3 bay station to be built and has secured land at the Strathbogie Recreation Reserve to construct the new facility.
Comments attributable to Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell:
“The town of Strathbogie is located within a high-risk bushfire environment and replacing the Strathbogie Fire Station should be a high priority for the Minister and the CFA.
“The upcoming State Budget is the perfect opportunity for the Acting Minister to support the Strathbogie community and fund the building of a new fit-for-purpose fire station for its wonderful CFA volunteers.”
